On July 19, 2023, Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution hosted “Thong Chai Charity Golf 2023” at Sentosa Golf Club. The event featured a charity golf tournament in the day and a dinner after. Despite the morning downpour, 143 participants gathered on the golf course, and all 36 flights were sold out. Fortunately, the rain subsided at noon and the tournament commenced under the clear skies. The event was graced by Guest of Honour, Chairman of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board (TCMPB), Dr. Teo Ho Pin. He wished for all participants to have fun during the tournament, and to donate generously to good cause.


As the night fell, attendees donned their finest attire for the celebratory dinner, graced by the Guest of Honour, Minister for Communications and Information, Second Minister for Home Affairs, Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity, Adviser to Jalan Besar GRC GROs, Mrs. Josephine Teo. During the dinner, Assistant Honorary Secretary of STCMI Board of Directors, who also served as the organizing chairperson of the charity golf event, Mr. Lim Hwee Hai, delivered a welcome speech and announced the pledged amount of S$1,247,507.16. This declaration showcased the unwavering support for the organization’s charitable cause and further inspired more contributions.


Minister Mrs. Josephine Teo presented commemorative plaques to 13 organizations and individuals, who exhibited exceptional dedication and selflessness in supporting the event. Notably, Teck Chiang Realty Pte Ltd, Chairman of the Lew Foundation Mr. Lew Chee Beng PBM, Crawfurd Hospital, TS Group Pte Ltd, The Ngee Ann Kongsi, Vino Partners Pte Ltd, Kris Foundation, Mdm. Cheng Hwee Peow, STCMI Senior Honorary Chairman Mr. Chua Leong Hai PBM, and our esteemed directors were among the honoured recipients. The dinner's spirited atmosphere continued during the auction, where two paintings donated by renowned artist Mr. Ling Yang Chang fetched a total of S$100,000.


Honorary Secretary Mr. Low Theng Whee expressed utmost gratitude to all participants and announced that the charity golf event raised a grand total of S$1,253,387.16. These funds would support the organization's charitable works to provide free medical services and care to all. The evening ended on a high note with a lucky draw session, and everyone returned home feeling full and contented.


This tournament was not just a sporting event or social gathering but also a testament to the boundless compassion from people of all walks of life. We could not thank all participants, sponsors, and supporters enough for their unwavering support in this event and in our cause throughout the years. We hope that with these funds raised, we can continue to spread love and hope for all, regardless of race, religion and nationality, without prejudice.
