Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution (STCMI) has been recognized by the Singapore Book of Records with two prestigious honours:
Oldest Existing Chinese Medical Institution
Largest Provider of Free Medical Services
This distinguished recognition not only affirms Thong Chai’s unwavering commitment to delivering Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) services to the public since its founding in 1867, but also highlights the Institution’s proactive role and meaningful social impact in advancing free TCM outpatient consultations.
Mr Lim Guan Lee, then Chairman of STCMI remarked that this is a great honour for Thong Chai, and meaningful recognition as we commemorate our 150th anniversary. These awards affirm both the historical significance of Thong Chai and the enduring relevance of our founding mission to provide free medical services to those in need.
For the past 150 years, Thong Chai has steadfastly upheld its founding principles of "providing free medical consultation and TCM to all, regardless of race, religion, or nationality." Looking ahead, the Institution remains committed to expanding its services, fostering the inheritance and innovation of TCM, and deepening its contributions to social welfare.
These honours serve not only as a tribute to STCMI’s remarkable legacy, but also as a compelling example for the broader TCM community, demonstrating how professional excellence can be meaningfully integrated with social responsibility.
