Code of Conduct
Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution (“STCMI”) is committed to upholding the principles of integrity, professionalism, accountability and good governance. STCMI is dedicated to the responsible stewardship of charitable resources, the fulfilment of its social responsibilities, and the maintenance of public trust and confidence.
The Board of Directors, Management, employees and volunteers are expected to uphold the Institution’s values and conduct themselves ethically, professionally and responsibly in the discharge of their duties.
The detailed standards of conduct are set out in the Institution’s Board Kit, Staff Handbook and related governance policies, which provide guidance to the Board of Directors, Management, employees and volunteers in the discharge of their respective responsibilities.
The Board of Directors provides oversight of the Institution’s governance, strategic direction and stewardship of charitable resources. Board members are expected to act in good faith, exercise independent judgement, discharge their fiduciary responsibilities and uphold the principles of accountability, transparency and integrity in accordance with the Institution’s Constitution and the Code of Governance for Charities and Institutions of a Public Character.
Management is responsible for fostering an ethical culture throughout the Institution by promoting compliance with applicable laws, policies and professional standards, while ensuring that employees receive appropriate guidance and support in fulfilling their responsibilities.
All employees are required to comply with the Code of Conduct set out in the Staff Handbook, which outlines the expected standards of professional behaviour, workplace discipline, confidentiality, conflict of interest, whistle-blowing, gifts and mementos, media engagement and personal data protection. Employees who breach the Code of Conduct are subject to the Institution’s disciplinary procedures.
